Dialogue Test

Gahhd Beckay from Karl Hadrika on Vimeo.

D-D-Dialogue test!  I could noodle with this for another month, but its time to MOVE ON... maybe i'll pick at it later.  Sorry for the audio delay.  Its the video transfer process or something.  I swear the sync was perfect in MonkeyJam.

Due to the scraggly nature of this test, I would recommend viewing it as SMALL as possible.  Thanks

The Frog Animatic

Frog Animatic from Karl Hadrika on Vimeo.

Wow look at that!  Two concept projects in a row!  Here's another animatic we had to finish in a week.  The story consists of a frog playing a banjo and then dodging a tomato.  Once again we all tried to out-do each other with crazy variations of a simple concept.  Lots of fun.  I wish vimeo wouldn't screw up the sound for the .mov versions of these animatics.  It only seems to acknowledge the .avi files, which are much lower quality here... so I do apologize for the resolution...and for the annoying repetition of the song I used (its supposed to be annoying in the story anyway)

Arachne vs. Athena

The Weaving Contest from Karl Hadrika on Vimeo.

Ok so this is my animatic storyboard I did for my concept class.  We were each given the same script to board out and add dialogue to.  Since EVERYONE had the same story with the same lines, (the Greek myth involving Arachne and Athena) it soon became a matter of personal interpretation.  So yeah... it gets a little silly.  But its not supposed to be taken too seriously.  I threw some sound in using adobe premiere in about and hour and a half.  Would you believe I provided Athena's sporadic man voice AND the girly scream?

The Wine Label

Well I guess its safe to put this up now.  I did this wine label thing towards the end of summer for a chance to win some much-needed scholarship money. Yeah, it would have been cool to win but losing is cool in its own way too I guess...  NEXT TIME!

3D DESIGN

Another throwback to the first semester, here are pictures of all of my 3D-design projects:

BAYOU REGATTA- Team Gene Simmons' Head
Our last assignment in 3D was a group collaboration where we had to construct a boat in teams of 3 and race it at the end of the semester. My group decided to build a triangular one-man vessel and then paint it so that the rower would look as if he/she were inside of Gene Simmons' mouth. After the paint-job was done, we made a tongue costume out of a Pink "breast cancer awareness" snuggie (y' know, so the rower would look like a rockstar tongue flopping around the inside of Gene Simmons' mouth... get it? s' crazy!) The picture below shows the costume wadded up inside the boat.  It was so ridiculous.

THE TOY- Housefly Gumball Machine
A candy dispensing toy where you press the wings to make the head spew gumballs.

MASS PROJECT- "Ub Wyatt" Moquette
For this project, we had to create an object or sculpture conveying a strong sense of mass. I thought this would be a good opportunity to do something pertaining to my major (character moquettes!), so I decided to sculpt the biggest, nastiest monster-thing I had created. Ub Wyatt, a character I thought up for an old project called "The Cactus Kid," was the ideal candidate. With his coiled, beard-ish neck fat and bulbous form, he truly had massive qualities... Perhaps too massive. You may notice the pictures are only taken of his upper half. This is because his awkward form was so ridiculously huge, that he sort of collapsed into his feet, which were too dainty for his upper half. After propping his stomach up with little toy cars for the duration of his construction, I had no choice but to remove them and do some last minute packing to the leg area just so that he could stand in the oven. That's the last time I use hanger wire to support something that needed steel.

WIRE GESTURES- Fall Forward
We had to construct a series of wire figures performing an action in rhythmic sequence. I tried to make mine tripping over itself and falling on its face. Balancing that second one in was a doosey. Since it was in the act of tripping, it never wanted to stand upright.

FEWS explosion

Yes yes more montages! All of the 30 second- 1 minute figure gestures I did during the first half of the second semester... thrown together in TWO big chunks!

Figure Drawings- 1st Semester

Alright, I'm finally getting around to uploading all that... that STUFF I did last year. Phase one: figure drawings from the first semester!

Snoots

Character design!! We all picked animal names from a hat and I got the elephant shrew! Finding the proper name was tricky. I mean, what can you call an elephant shrew? Some of my ideas included Fu Manshrew, Freddy Shrewger, Shrewby Doo, Shrewbert, and Gaylord...... "Snoots" it was!

Beauty Killed the Beast

I told myself i would upload all the stuff i did last semester before posting anything new... but then I changed my mind. This is my Art Nouveau triptych for communication design.
I thought it would be interesting to create a series of Mucha-esque paintings portraying something out-of-whack like a sickeningly sweet death, where most Art Nouveau subjects were entirely light and frivolous. The metaphor, “beauty killed the beast” translates as a sort of out-with-the-old, in-with-the-new interpretation, where trademark female subjects of Art Nouveau are making way for the future by dismissing the styles of old, hence the slaughtering of the pig.  Just go with it.  Since the piece portrays a transitional period, I thought I should arrange the three pieces so that they'd create the shape of a merging-lane traffic sign (the past merging into the present).  It is an exaggerated and dark play on the idea of progression.
Yes, I know the Art Nouveau movement has been overused. The way I saw it, it was either something like "Abstract Expressionism" or foxy ladies killing a pig.
